Why the Dogpile on
Perry for SS Ponzi
Scheme Remarks?
Perry is being savaged far and wide for his characterizations of
the Social Security program. That doesn't tell us much about
Perry that we don't already know. He's a hard-nosed pragmatist
who sticks by his guns.
The interesting part of all of this is that these remarks are serving
as a remarkably effective tool to reveal much about others.
Other Republicans who criticize Perry's words have made similar,
albeit more subtle, remarks themselves about SS as
unsustainable. Their actions and words only tell us that they,
themselves, are candidates who want to win or are backing
others and see this as an opportunity to carve out senior votes
even at the cost of hypocrisy.
Karl Rove is probably gun-shy. His boss, President G.W Bush was
raked over the coals for any effort to improve the program. Now
the skittish Rove announces that a GOP candidate shouldn't even
discuss it.
Democrats rejoice at what they see as even a tiny chink in Perry's
armor.
No matter whether or not you agree with Perry's perspective, I see
all of this horror over the fact that he had the nerve to verbalize
negativity about this sacred cow as a very real and major insult to
America's Senior citizens. Implicit in all of this is the assertion that
Seniors are completely self-centered, self- involved and selfish. It
is a clear insult. All this critics, regardless of arty affiliation, seem
to believe that Seniors are concerned about themselves but have
no concern for their nation or future generations. These critics
strongly imply that seniors are incapable of understanding the
nuances of the issue.
They are all wrong. They underestimate America's Senior
Citizens- a miscalculation they may not totally appreciate until
November of next year.
