A Roar from the Right-

Conservatives on the Front Line:
We hear more and more about the advent
of "buyer's remorse" concerning the
performance of President Obama. People
are asking with increasing frequency "How
did this man get elected? Why did people
vote for him?"
It is significant how Conservatives consider
and discuss this issue. The first thing that
we must realize and clarify to others is that
Barack Obama was not elected as the
result of a political campaign. He came to
power via a pure marketing and public
relations campaign. Voters cannot issolate
specific issues or policies that prompted an
Obama vote. Ther is a clear reason for
this. Obama was marketed to the people
as a product. A soft drink can use slick
packaging and advertisements to make
consumers buy, but those same
consumers cannot name a single
ingredient or discuss the product in
anything but general terms.
Obama is more like the hula hoop than is is
the President. That lack of a detailed and
substantive connection with the people will
not serve him well over time.--sjm

On this day in 1702 the first daily newspaper
in English was published in Great Britain. It
was called The Daily Courant.
Commentary: Freedom cannot exist without
the open and honest dissemination of
information. For centuries daily newspapers
have performed this task. The genre of the
newspaper may be in peril today thanks to
the advent of mass media and the Internet,
but the principles remain the same. When
people in a society stop demanding the
truth, that society is in dire trouble. Let us all
pray that Americans continue to be scrappy
demanders of the real story.
Imagine the excitement there must have
been among the people when the first issue
of the Daily Courant hit the streets. Imagine
how it must have felt for people to have a
reliable source of information available to
them for the first time. How precious the
truth must have been on that day. Let's
carry those feelings with us as we continue
to guard against the Fairness Doctrine and
her surrogates in disguise.

Adidas Sports wear is marketing gear with
the hot new trend for young people- the
traditional Communist Party logo of the
hammer and sickle and red star. It is no
accident that such products are being
promoted at this time. The Obama
Administration has much praise for
Castro's Cuba, Chaves' Venezuela and
Communist China. In every statement that
comes from them in the realm of foreign
policy are snide implications that
opposition to communism was backward- a
Bush blunder. Adidas is picking up on their
attitude and pushing it to our ill-educated
young people who are following the
Administration's lead in an infatuation with
communist nations. What is most offensive
is seeing the symbol of the former USSR
so cavalierly displayed as if the fact that
Soviet dictators caused the deaths of tens
of millions and deprived the living of their
civil and economic rights.
It is still a free country and Adidas and
others have the right to produce whatever
they choose. As consumers we have the
right to express ourselves at the cash
register. I don't believe that conservatives
would find room for the Adidas label in their
closets. --sjm

articulated the essence of this country as a

touted as being articulate, as well, but there

inspirational story of badly outnumbered

written openly expressed call for independence
from Great Brittain. It is notable for its plain

universal. He says, "the cause of America is in

One of the Conservative's most

such false image is the one we are being

hurls out quick action, complex bill, hurried

excess, it boggles the mind. How does the
establishment media characterize him? Oh-
they gush. "He's trying so hard. The young

he's put way too much on his plate."
GARBAGE. Plain and simple. He is not
some earnest college freshman who

altruistically took on too great a workload.
For Obama and his homies, every action is

Class warfare (read "uncle Sigmund" about
this) is the most dangerous arrow tat those
who oppose our form of government have
in their quivers. Class warfare is nearly
impossible to battle in difficult economic
times as it appeals to our natural, more
childlike emotions- envy, jealousy,
resentment, even fear.
It is up to us, as Conservatives, to oppose
the introduction of class warfare vigorously
ever time and in every form it is introduced.
We must see through the ploy even when
all others are fooled.
An excellent case in point is the AIG bonus
controversy. Angry, worried people are up
in arms because this private company that
took government loans has also issued
bonuses to employees. Very slyly- very
cleverly- the Obama administration is using
public anger to seek unprecedented
control over this private entity's
compensation policies. DON'T Fall FOR IT!
This is a private company. It doesn't matter
if they took government assistance or not.
They are not a government agency. We
have no right to dictate their activities.
This company has not been nationalized-
yet! Let the marketplace reward or
condemn their internal policies.
What precedent is the outraged Obama
trying to establish? Is it that every small
business that receives a grant or a loan
must have their compensation policies
approved by him and his lackies?
I don't like it that Sean Penn gets millions
for a movie or that Brian Williams gets
millions for anchoring the news, but their
compensation exists in the private market
place. Even if Brian Williams' network were
to get some kind of government funding
and even if the production company for a
Sean Penn movie were to get government
funding- it would still be wrong and
UnAmerican for that government to use
that circumstance to attach totalitarian
controls.
This is still a free country. It can remain so
if Conservatives are tough and savvy in
the refusal to engage in AIG-style class
warfare. --sjm

the time of his power, a pure autocracy.
There were no checks- no balances. As a
result, one man's moral values and
ridiculous policies held sway. I imagine those
who founded our country devoted much time
and energy to an analysis of the history of
the Roman Empire. Caligula must have
served as a poignant lesson in the need to
limit and monitor the power of any branch of
a governing body.
As we watch the federal branch of
government explode and devour like the
horror movie "Blob", perhaps the lesson of
Caligula warrants review.

Another day has begun with even more
outrage about the AIG bonuses. The anger
is reaching eruption levels. Many
Republican and Conservative leaders and
writers are joining the din. Even our friends
at Fox News are emotionally vocal about
their anger at these evil bonus-bearing
executives. I pray that we can convince
everyone to take a few steps backward

details of what this megacorporation has
done right or done wrong. I do know that
the Obama propaganda machine has
selected this narrow issue to use to ignite
class warfare and to continually fan the
flames. We must be strong and resist. I am
having as difficult time as anyone else, but
I will not fall for this ploy and join in with the
lynch mob cries for outrageous
government controls and interference. This
is a crucial moment in our history. We must
be VERY smart and very controlled. There

On this day in 2003, the War in Iraq began.
Commentary: Excuse us if we are
redundant, but it can not be repeated often
enough: The War in Iraq not only is a
success now, it was the right thing to do
then. Al Quiada had personnel in several
places- we could not go to them all. Iraq
was, indeed, a brilliant choice. It was a
pivotal location for training and recruiting
terrorists. It was nation ready, able and
poised to be free. And it is a nation who's
modernization and democratization resulted
in a remarkable improvement in stability for
the entire region. The "proof is in the
pudding"- this cannot be denied. More could
not have been accomplished anywhere else,
especially not in Afghanistan.
Since weapons of Mass Destruction can
actually be anything but massive, we will
never now if small nuclear devices or vials of
chemical weapons were discretely exported
to Syria during the several months that we
publicly planned our moves. It doesn't matter
now. We made a significant improvement in
the face of the world. We robbed the world's
terrorists of a safe haven and a very
powerful administration that was
aggressively supportive of terrorism.
Hopefully, the progress that has been made
will not be lost and the significance and
value of the human sacrifices made there
will be understood and long remembered.

with the prose of youth and freshness and
so few looked beyond the glow of new-brand
charisma they did not see in the shadows
behind him The massive, solid body of
established liberalism.
The liberal agenda has remained
remarkably unchanged for decades. Ted
Kennedy exemplifies this. Liberals have
been banding together, refining their policy
goals and working with enviable unison for
all these years.
Ted Kennedy has been promoting an
attitude of acquiescence toward our
enemies and a distancing from the allies of
freedom for a long time. The liberal cause
shares that attitude as well as the belief that
government should not only control every
aspect of our lives, but private enterprise as
well.
Remember on this day in history that
liberalism in this country is extraordinarily
well entrenched and established. One of the
reasons were are in the mess we are today
is that we have failed to fully learn that
lesson.

On this day in 1775 Patriot Patrick Henry
made his historic speech before the Virginia
House of Burgesses. Henry called for
independence from Great Britain and
uttered the immortal words: "Give me liberty
or give me death."
Also on this day in 1933 the Reichstag ( the
congressional body for the free republic of
Germany) voted to give Hitler the right to
rule by decree.
Commentary: History gives us a stark
contrast today. In Patrick Henry we have a
man who was not only willing to step up and
make public statements that were unpopular
in many quarters, but was willing to give his
very life in a fight for freedom.
In Adolf Hitler we have a politically ambitious
man who designed a brilliant plan to take
freedom from those he would rule.
The Reichstag's actions, known as the
Enabling Act, set the stage for a brutal
dictatorship. The most important thing for us
to realize is that a free nation essentially lost
its freedom on this day. Liberty wasn't lost
because of invading troops or a military
coup. Freedom was lost because of
emergency actions taken by a duly elected
body. Prior to this fateful vote, there had
been economic problems and Hitler and his
National Socialist associates had been in the
streets, fanning the flames of class warfare-
whipping the people into a violent, angry
frenzy. Then the Reichstag had been burnt
to the ground. Hitler, currently the
Chancellor, championed the belief that
Communist forces were behind it. He
claimed to seek the power to rule without
congressional backing to act quickly in a
time of crisis, promising that once these
problems were solved, the nation would still
be free.
Clearly this was a group who knew how to
never let a good crisis go to waste!

On this day in 1765 Parliament passed the
Quartering Act which forced American

their private homes and in public and

Commentary: We are a civilized society. We
choose to temper our own rights. We can do
anything in our own homes, yet we cannot
murder an acquaintance in the parlor. That
is a restriction that we all agree upon and it
does not violate the sanctity of our own
homes. A government dictating to us that we
must take people into our homes is the most
profound violation of our rights.
We may think that we, as modern
Americans, would never face such a
violation of the sanctity of our thresholds.
We'd be wrong. The British government
justified their actions as efforts to maintain
order for the public good. We are on the
verge of many similar actions- large and
small- from the loving concern of a big
brother government much like the
motherland that was England.
No, we will not immediately be asked to

seems to be "Well- if we had the power to
manage AIG in the first place, we wouldn't
be in trouble now." Rubbish. Regurgitated
Obama talking points that do not even
reflect a passing acquaintance with the
truth. Geithner did not just spring full-grown
from the forehead of Zeus. He has been an
important element the existing network of
government for a long time. There already
are mechanism in place to curb wild
speculation by the branch of AIG that ran
amuck. They weren't utilized. It was primarily
(Hate to keep saying it) Obama's own
people Geithner and Summers who allowed
federal loans to be issued without caveats.
We don't need new powers to go to these
guys because what has happened thus far
happened by design- not because of any
procedural lacking.
Allowing Geithner or any element of this
power-mad administration this kind of
unfettered autonomy is absolutely,
UnAmerican, unneeded and ridiculously
stupid. Make certain that your elected
representatives know that you do not
support giving this power to a bureaucrat.
This is important. Fight hard. Yes, AIG and a
few others did make crucial mistakes, but
they are not wholly worthless. It is as
Geithner was the teacher and because a

Commentary: When Lord Baltimore traveled
from Great Britain to establish a colony he
was motivated by many commercial and
political factors. However, another major
motive was a desire to find a place where he
and other members of the Catholic faith
could practice their faith without persecution.
It doesn't really matter which specific
religions were involved in the early days of
our colonization. What we must realize is
that many, many settlers came here for the
express purpose of finding religious
freedom. They were not seeking an absence
of religion- quite to the contrary. These first
Americans asked only for a government that
would not dictate or control beliefs but allow
individuals to worship as they saw fit.
What would those early Americans say if
they could see our current government, so
intent on eliminating all religion from public
life and discourse. They would probably see
little difference between their government
that forced upon the people one specific
church and ours that forces upon the people
godlessness as the faith of the land.

We hear more and more about the advent
of "buyer's remorse" concerning the
performance of President Obama. People
are asking with increasing frequency "How
did this man get elected? Why did people
vote for him?"
It is significant how Conservatives consider
and discuss this issue. The first thing that
we must realize and clarify to others is that
Barack Obama was not elected as the
result of a political campaign. He came to
power via a pure marketing and public
relations campaign. Voters cannot issolate
specific issues or policies that prompted an
Obama vote. Ther is a clear reason for
this. Obama was marketed to the people
as a product. A soft drink can use slick
packaging and advertisements to make
consumers buy, but those same
consumers cannot name a single
ingredient or discuss the product in
anything but general terms.
Obama is more like the hula hoop than is is

On this day in 1702 the first daily newspaper

Adidas Sports wear is marketing gear with

Administration has much praise for
Castro's Cuba, Chaves' Venezuela and
Communist China. In every statement that

policy are snide implications that
opposition to communism was backward- a
Bush blunder. Adidas is picking up on their
attitude and pushing it to our ill-educated

communist nations. What is most offensive
is seeing the symbol of the former USSR
so cavalierly displayed as if the fact that
Soviet dictators caused the deaths of tens
of millions and deprived the living of their
civil and economic rights.
It is still a free country and Adidas and

can accomplish when not languishing under
the burdens of a corrupt union system that

the pamphlet entitled "Common Sense".
Commentary: Historians believe to be the first
written openly expressed call for independence
from Great Brittain. It is notable for its plain
and direct language. Paine discusses the need
for independence not in the context of complex
political and economic ramifications, but plainly
and simply as the need for freedom. He
describes the cause of the colonies as being
universal. He says, "the cause of America is in
great measure that of mankind."
It Is important for us to remember that the
Founders realized from our country's very
inception that we would carry the torch of
freedom for the world. The consequences of a
loss of freedom here truly are global.

One of the Conservative's most

more damaging and more pervasive. One
such false image is the one we are being
presented about our new President. He
hurls out quick action, complex bill, hurried
executive orders and such in such a blur of
excess, it boggles the mind. How does the
establishment media characterize him? Oh-
they gush. "He's trying so hard. The young

he's put way too much on his plate."
GARBAGE. Plain and simple. He is not
some earnest college freshman who
mistakenly takes too many classes. He's
not some sincere young executive who
altruistically took on too great a workload.
For Obama and his homies, every action is

lust for power is present in the natures of

A Roar from the Right-

Conservatives on the Front Line:
Class warfare (read "uncle Sigmund" about
this) is the most dangerous arrow tat those
who oppose our form of government have
in their quivers. Class warfare is nearly
impossible to battle in difficult economic
times as it appeals to our natural, more
childlike emotions- envy, jealousy,
resentment, even fear.
It is up to us, as Conservatives, to oppose
the introduction of class warfare vigorously
ever time and in every form it is introduced.
We must see through the ploy even when
all others are fooled.
An excellent case in point is the AIG bonus
controversy. Angry, worried people are up
in arms because this private company that
took government loans has also issued
bonuses to employees. Very slyly- very
cleverly- the Obama administration is using
public anger to seek unprecedented
control over this private entity's
compensation policies. DON'T Fall FOR IT!
This is a private company. It doesn't matter
if they took government assistance or not.
They are not a government agency. We
have no right to dictate their activities.
This company has not been nationalized-
yet! Let the marketplace reward or
condemn their internal policies.
What precedent is the outraged Obama
trying to establish? Is it that every small
business that receives a grant or a loan
must have their compensation policies
approved by him and his lackies?
I don't like it that Sean Penn gets millions
for a movie or that Brian Williams gets
millions for anchoring the news, but their
compensation exists in the private market
place. Even if Brian Williams' network were
to get some kind of government funding
and even if the production company for a
Sean Penn movie were to get government
funding- it would still be wrong and
UnAmerican for that government to use
that circumstance to attach totalitarian
controls.
This is still a free country. It can remain so
if Conservatives are tough and savvy in
the refusal to engage in AIG-style class
warfare. --sjm

Commentary: Historians will never fully
agree as to how much of what we "know" of
the brief and colorful reign of Caligula is
exaggeration or verifiable fact. All seem to
agree on thing, however. Caligula was the
poster boy for absolute power run amuck.
Whether his outrageous behavior was a
result of madness or calculation, Caligula
was able to do anything with impunity.
Operating out of a government, that was at
the time of his power, a pure autocracy.
There were no checks- no balances. As a
result, one man's moral values and
ridiculous policies held sway. I imagine those
who founded our country devoted much time
and energy to an analysis of the history of
the Roman Empire. Caligula must have
served as a poignant lesson in the need to
limit and monitor the power of any branch of
a governing body.
As we watch the federal branch of

Caligula warrants review.

enough: The War in Iraq not only is a
success now, it was the right thing to do
then. Al Quiada had personnel in several
places- we could not go to them all. Iraq
was, indeed, a brilliant choice. It was a
pivotal location for training and recruiting
terrorists. It was nation ready, able and
poised to be free. And it is a nation who's
modernization and democratization resulted
in a remarkable improvement in stability for
the entire region. The "proof is in the
pudding"- this cannot be denied. More could
not have been accomplished anywhere else,
especially not in Afghanistan.
Since weapons of Mass Destruction can
actually be anything but massive, we will
never now if small nuclear devices or vials of
chemical weapons were discretely exported

so few looked beyond the glow of new-brand

The liberal agenda has remained
remarkably unchanged for decades. Ted

been banding together, refining their policy

all these years.
Ted Kennedy has been promoting an
attitude of acquiescence toward our
enemies and a distancing from the allies of
freedom for a long time. The liberal cause
shares that attitude as well as the belief that
government should not only control every
aspect of our lives, but private enterprise as
well.

On this day in 1775 Patriot Patrick Henry
made his historic speech before the Virginia
House of Burgesses. Henry called for
independence from Great Britain and
uttered the immortal words: "Give me liberty
or give me death."
Also on this day in 1933 the Reichstag ( the
congressional body for the free republic of
Germany) voted to give Hitler the right to
rule by decree.
Commentary: History gives us a stark
contrast today. In Patrick Henry we have a
man who was not only willing to step up and
make public statements that were unpopular
in many quarters, but was willing to give his
very life in a fight for freedom.
In Adolf Hitler we have a politically ambitious
man who designed a brilliant plan to take
freedom from those he would rule.
The Reichstag's actions, known as the
Enabling Act, set the stage for a brutal
dictatorship. The most important thing for us
to realize is that a free nation essentially lost
its freedom on this day. Liberty wasn't lost
because of invading troops or a military
coup. Freedom was lost because of
emergency actions taken by a duly elected
body. Prior to this fateful vote, there had
been economic problems and Hitler and his
National Socialist associates had been in the
streets, fanning the flames of class warfare-
whipping the people into a violent, angry
frenzy. Then the Reichstag had been burnt
to the ground. Hitler, currently the
Chancellor, championed the belief that
Communist forces were behind it. He
claimed to seek the power to rule without
congressional backing to act quickly in a
time of crisis, promising that once these
problems were solved, the nation would still
be free.
Clearly this was a group who knew how to
never let a good crisis go to waste!

quite a point of giving former President
Bush equal billing in our current disastrous
slide toward socialism. I apologize for
repeating this- but it is so important. Such
statements frequently made by Newt
Gingrich and others are not only
misleading, they are as counterproductive
as they can possibly be.
I realize that many people are angry that
the Bush Administration endorsed the
original TARP action. Fine. But it is
absolutely essential to consider intent.
Bush was misled by Obama sleeper double
agents like Geithner and Summers, yes.
But his intent was only to temporarily alive
ate a credit crisis. His intent was NOT to
harm capitalism. It was NOT to increase
government power over private
enterprises. Bush's intent was NOT to use
that credit crisis as a cover to conceal
efforts to force on the American people
extreme social agendas. But by linking
Bush with Obama- that man who did
operate with all such intent, incredible
cover is provided for Obama.
It is a disservice to the American people for
any leader to assist Obama on his
treacherous course by allowing him
co-billing with Bush.
It is up to us all to find ways to make this
point. Obama may have inherited a patient

critical condition thanks to unbelievable
malpractice. He'd like to place all the blame

On this day in 1765 Parliament passed the
Quartering Act which forced American
colonists to house 10,000 British troops in
their private homes and in public and
commercial buildings.
Commentary: We are a civilized society. We
choose to temper our own rights. We can do
anything in our own homes, yet we cannot
murder an acquaintance in the parlor. That
is a restriction that we all agree upon and it
does not violate the sanctity of our own
homes. A government dictating to us that we
must take people into our homes is the most
profound violation of our rights.
We may think that we, as modern
Americans, would never face such a
violation of the sanctity of our thresholds.
We'd be wrong. The British government
justified their actions as efforts to maintain
order for the public good. We are on the
verge of many similar actions- large and
small- from the loving concern of a big
brother government much like the
motherland that was England.
No, we will not immediately be asked to
house hostile troops. However, the sanctity
of domestic rights will vanish just as
assuredly, being chiseled away by
environmental, health and economic
dictum's.

A Roar from the Right-
Battlefield Communiques for
Conservatives on the Front Line:
It is a little alarming to see how many people
who should know better- who should be
champions of free enterprise- actually,
reasonably entertaining the idea of allowing
Geithner the power to preemptively manage
privately held financial or financially-related
corporate entities. The popular mantra
seems to be "Well- if we had the power to
manage AIG in the first place, we wouldn't
be in trouble now." Rubbish. Regurgitated
Obama talking points that do not even
reflect a passing acquaintance with the
truth. Geithner did not just spring full-grown
from the forehead of Zeus. He has been an
important element the existing network of
government for a long time. There already
are mechanism in place to curb wild
speculation by the branch of AIG that ran
amuck. They weren't utilized. It was primarily
(Hate to keep saying it) Obama's own
people Geithner and Summers who allowed
federal loans to be issued without caveats.
We don't need new powers to go to these
guys because what has happened thus far
happened by design- not because of any
procedural lacking.
Allowing Geithner or any element of this
power-mad administration this kind of
unfettered autonomy is absolutely,
UnAmerican, unneeded and ridiculously
stupid. Make certain that your elected
representatives know that you do not
support giving this power to a bureaucrat.
This is important. Fight hard. Yes, AIG and a
few others did make crucial mistakes, but
they are not wholly worthless. It is as
Geithner was the teacher and because a
couple of students have misbehaved he's
demanded from parents the right to ship the
entire class to Juvenile Hall if he thinks
others might misbehave. --sjm

I cannot imagine why some of those who
have a voice remain a self-destructive
course, but I know that we, the
conservative constituency, must now
mount an intervention.
Over the weekend I heard Bill Kristal make
quite a point of giving former President
Bush equal billing in our current disastrous
slide toward socialism. I apologize for
repeating this- but it is so important. Such
statements frequently made by Newt
Gingrich and others are not only
misleading, they are as counterproductive
as they can possibly be.
I realize that many people are angry that
the Bush Administration endorsed the
original TARP action. Fine. But it is
absolutely essential to consider intent.
Bush was misled by Obama sleeper double
agents like Geithner and Summers, yes.
But his intent was only to temporarily alive
ate a credit crisis. His intent was NOT to
harm capitalism. It was NOT to increase
government power over private
enterprises. Bush's intent was NOT to use
that credit crisis as a cover to conceal
efforts to force on the American people
extreme social agendas. But by linking
Bush with Obama- that man who did
operate with all such intent, incredible
cover is provided for Obama.
It is a disservice to the American people for
any leader to assist Obama on his
treacherous course by allowing him
co-billing with Bush.
It is up to us all to find ways to make this
point. Obama may have inherited a patient
with a common cold. The patient is now in
critical condition thanks to unbelievable
malpractice. He'd like to place all the blame
on the medical team in charge while the
patient caught the cold. Let's not help
him!--sjm

This Day in History:
On this day in 1634 the colony of Maryland
was founded
Commentary: When Lord Baltimore traveled
from Great Britain to establish a colony he
was motivated by many commercial and
political factors. However, another major
motive was a desire to find a place where he
and other members of the Catholic faith
could practice their faith without persecution.
It doesn't really matter which specific
religions were involved in the early days of
our colonization. What we must realize is
that many, many settlers came here for the
express purpose of finding religious
freedom. They were not seeking an absence
of religion- quite to the contrary. These first
Americans asked only for a government that
would not dictate or control beliefs but allow
individuals to worship as they saw fit.
What would those early Americans say if
they could see our current government, so
intent on eliminating all religion from public
life and discourse. They would probably see
little difference between their government
that forced upon the people one specific
church and ours that forces upon the people
godlessness as the faith of the land.
