On this day in 1938 Hitler's Nazi Third Reich
voted to initiate massive confiscation of
"degenerate art" throughout Germany.
Commentary: Such techniques as cubism,
dadaism, expressionism, impressionism, and
surrealism were considered to be "modern"
and defined by Hitler to be "degenerate".
Many of the artists and sculptors who's work
fell with within Hitler's arbitrary definitions
were Jewish. Others were condemned by
Hitler as "behaving like Jews". He
contennded that the artists, in their
departure from traditional techniques were
insulting the cultural, moral and religious
standards of Germany.
The art was forcibly taken from legal owners
and displayed in a very crude, unattrative
way and much of it had derivisive and
insulting text attached. Some of the artists
censored by Hitler were Chagall, Matisse,
Picasso and Van Gough.
I believe there are times when a society has
the right to censor itself. We have the right
to decide that we will not allow pornography
to be displayed in the town square. What
happened in 1938, was different. The
parameters of the censorship were decided
by one man, alone, without any effort to
reflect the MORAL values of the people.

There are times when the incessant and
cacophonous voice of the people can
accomplish something great. Sometimes it in
arena far-reaching such as the passage of a
law. Sometimes it is about one person.
Today we must raise our voices for one
person.
He is First Lt. Michael Behenna, an Army
Ranger. While stationed in Iraq he was
alleged to have murdered a known Al Qaeda
terrorist named Ali Mansur. It was believed
that Mansur was involved in an attack that
killed two American soldiers in Behanna's
platoon. It was decided that Mansur should
be released to return to his cell. There were
some irregularities in Behanna's behavior.
Without permission, he decided to try one
last interrogation to gain information on the
terror cell before the detainee was released.
It was at this time that Behenna claims
Mansur attacked him and he was forced to
fire in self-defense. Although a highly
credentialed forensics expert has declared
that the evidence supports Behanna's
version of events, his testimony and
evidence was not shared with the defense in
time to impact the verdict, nor was Behenna
permitted to testify on his own behalf.
He was convicted and sentence to 25 years.
Objectively speaking, LT. Behenna may
have to answer for disobeying orders and
the like, but it does not appear that he
received a fair trial. What it looks like our
national obsession to vilify ourselves, to
blame ourselves, to agree with any other
nation in any negative statement about our
country has claimed another victim. In lieu of
an eyewitness and with the support of
forensic evidence, the testimony of an
American serviceman with a good record
should be believed. Instead of protecting
someone who has served us with courage
and dedication, he's been thrown under the
bus. I believe Behenna is a martyr to our
efforts to gain the approval of the world.
The cost is too high. Behenna is one man-
but then again, he is not. He is every man
and woman serving us in harm's way and
wondering if they will be protected or
abandoned by their country. Raise your
voices as loudly as you can, Conservatives.

On this day in 19 19 the United States
Congress passed the Woman's Suffrage Act.
Commentary: Woman were finally given the
vote. A culture that found women staying at
home to care for and nurse the children,
prepare the food , maintain the house, etc,
found the men leaving the home to do labor.
It was the men who interacted and became
parts of town decision-making. Eventually,
this cultural trend resulted in women being
left out of governmental and community
decision-making.
It took a while for the culture and the laws to
see the light, but today there is no nation in
existence in which women have greater
rights or more"equality" than our own.
This is in sharp contrast to the Muslim
nations President Obama is visiting today. In
this nations women are often deprived of
many civil liberties and treated as chattel.
This President loves to tell everyone that he
is trying diplomacy but George Bush never
did. Absurd. The rights of women and girls

throughout the Middle East have increased
dramatically throughout the Bush years.
Diplomacy from a position of strength

There is a pall falling over this land. There is
a great fear about the future of America and
we, as a people, teeter on a precipice. We
will either begin to fight back to reclaim our
shining city on the hill or retreat in
resignation.
It is my belief that Obama policies are
designed to produce resignation. That is
why so much monumental change has been
forced on us in an astoundingly brief period
of time. It makes us feel helpless and
bludgeoned. It is also one of the reasons
that our new President is so deliberate in
demeaning us, as a people, in the eyes of
other nations. Pride is a weapon- pride does
not surrender.
Conservatives are especially vulnerable to
these attacks on the American spirit. We
must fight back with pro-active strategies.
We must not accept anything that we think is
unacceptable- whether it be unsound
legislation, improper appointments or a
President over-reaching his power through a

On this day in 1794 the United States
Congress prohibited any citizen from serving
in a foreign army.
Commentary: Those who founded our
country and formulated its structure in the
early days of our existence were defining the
essence of what it means to be an American
citizen.
The new country emerged from political
debate- open and loud exchanges of
differing points of view. Surely to agree with
every action of the government was not
envisioned as a necessary attribute of a
citizen. Yet, no matter what squabbles might
be acceptable "within the family", there is
demanded of a citizen a certain level of
loyalty. Citizens do not give aid and comfort
to enemies of this country. Citizenship in
adults is a privilege balanced against
responsibilities.
Criticisms of this country always have and
hopefully always will be aired and argued

On this day in 1915 William Jennings Bryan
resigned as Secretary of State in The
Wilson Administration.
Commentary: Bryan was a two-time
Democratic Presidential nominee and
extremely influential in the Democrat Party at
the time. He was known a populist, an
opponent of Darwinism, a challenger of the
gold standard and an advocate of peace as
a result of American neutrality and
non-involvement.
In May of 1915, a German submarine sank
the British ocean liner the Lusitania. The
sinking occurred near Ireland. The ship had
departed New York carrying nearly 2,000
people, 139 of them American citizens.
Wilson, himself, connected with the peace
movement had initially responded to the
incident with great moderation and restraint.
However, Wilson contended that no
circumstance could justify the taking of so
many innocent lives. Debate with Bryan was
bitter. Bryan believed that no responsive
action should be taken but that the United
States should remain in a state of pure
neutrality as to avoid any involvement in war.
Wilson was correct to have taken a hard line
considering the sinking of a civilian ocean
liner. Even he recognized that there are
times when doing the right thing takes
precedence over a desire for peace. But it is
the ghost of Bryan I see haunting this White
House- so naive in its view of evil and so
unable to fight it.

take their focus away from the National Health Care
Agenda and turned toward efforts to push through

The answer is that conservatives must learn how to
mult-itask- moreover we must learn to recognize and
combat the strategy of the enemy. They do
multi-task. They attack every side of the castle,
simultaneously. They distract with one hot button
issue, while forcing through legislation on three other

This Day in History:
On this day in 68 AD the Emperor Nero
committed suicide in Rome.
Commentary: Nero, although extremely
eccentric from the beginning, for a time
ruled over a government that was actually
disposed toward granting increasing rights
to people and forward thinking. This can be
largely attributed the counsel of two wise
mentors. Although they never could control
Nero's increasingly corrupt and excessive
personal behavior. Eventually, Nero became
dependent on a new mentor, Gaius
Tigellinus, who was more corrupt than
himself.
Tigellinus sought power ruthlessly. As things
deteriorated, he re-instituted the "treason
Court". There was really no court involved.
Anyone that Nero (and his administration)
disliked, disagreed with, was suspicious, was
jealous of or feared was given an order to
commit suicide. If they declined they were
executed- no hearing, no trial, no appeal.
At first, the Senate, many of whom were
executed, held back in fear. Eventually,
citizens and factions in the military and
government did rise up because while the
Nero administration spent all of their time
devising strategies to gain power and
designing punishment for those who dared
to dissent or oppose, the basic structure of
life was disintegrating as evidenced by
things like massive food shortages. Finally,
Nero's execution was ordered by those who
had overthrown him. He chose suicide
instead.
Nothing demonstrates the corruption of
power more clearly than the way one treats
opposing views.... I look at the White House
today. Is that Nero fiddling on the roof?-- SJM

I saw Barack Obama cowering behind the shadow of
George Bush yesterday- again. As we watch him dismantle
the foundations of our economy it seems unbelievable that
he thinks he can shift the blame for this collapse to his
predecessor, but then, he has a lot of help in this regard
from surprising sources.
I believe it is fashionable - a bit of a fad- the cool thing to
do- to include George Bush in the blame game for this
mess. We hear it from Libertarian and conservative
pundits and "broad-minded Republicans. The Newt's of the
world jump on the bandwagon readily.
All the third-party-power-wanabees cannot resist the
temptation to roast a donkey and a pachyderm on the
same grill. But is wrong. It is giving Obama cover he
does not deserve and, again it is wrong. I for one will not
parrot this mantra just because it is in vogue. I have often
disagreed with Bush. But the truth is the truth. He did a
masterful job with the economy after 9-11. Even though he
had to maintain entitlement programs that he did not start-
like Medicare and social security for a Baby Boom
generation exploding into them for the first time under his
term, - and even though he maintained a war on terror of a
scope and expense that this nation has never seen and
maintained two standard wars, and even though our
country was hit by a devastating hurricane, George Bush
did make visible efforts to contain his own discretionary
spending and did oversee an economy remarkably stable.
I've said it before and I'll repeat: Bush's biggest flaws were
his failure to "sell" his actions to the American people and
to be politically naive. When someone like Barack Obama
talks about nonpartisanship, it is only feel-good rhetoric.
Bush on the other hand actually practiced it. allowed many
partisan Democrats into his administration because he
believed that they would put Country ahead of Party. He
was very, very wrong when it came to some people
involved with the Treasury and Federal Reserve. Obama
devotees like Geithner and Summers and Paulson took
actions and gave counsel that led directly to the surprising
and oh-so-conveniently timed economic problems that
gave the election to Obama. No, It was not an accident.
And although the original TARP was ill-advised, it was not
designed nor intended by Bush to be more than a
short-termed loan, nor was it the first time the government
had stepped inin a temporary way, not intended to open
the door to socialism, eg the steel and airline industries.
No, ALL of these self-serving voices must stop now
enabling Obama to share his guilt with Bush. Bush
dropped the patient off with a sore toe. The Obama
adminstration has subjected the patient to dozens of
unneeded major surgeries and pumped him full of
hundreds of strong, harmful drugs. The patient is now near
death and the Obama doctors tell us they will put "sore
toe" as the cause of death on the death certificate.
You only have to read my other writings to know that I am a
strong critic of the Republican Party, so I do not make this
pleading for partisan reasons. It is for the good of the
nation that I beg all of you out there who begin every
condemnation of Obama's fiasco with a condemnation of
Bush, Stop. Just Stop. Obama doesn't need your help. If
you want to further your own political goals by continually
trashing both parties equally, please find another avenue.

On this day in 1752 Ben Franklin's kite was
struck by lightning (according to some
historians).
Commentary: Our great nation came into
being because the right group of remarkable
people were alive at the right time in the
right place. It is the remarkable nature of our
founders that strikes me today. The exact
nature of what Franklin did in his kite
experiments is not agreed upon but what
should matter to us is that there WERE
experiments- and ideas- and inventions- and
writings and innovations we may never
know. Franklin was not completely unique in
this. Many of the other founders such as
Thomas Jefferson achieved much in areas
beyond the founding of a nation.
Perhaps that was why their contributions
were so profound. Yes, they were lawyers
and thinkers and leaders, but they also
combined the points of view of scientists,
inventors and artists. Perhaps it is because
they had such horizons in their thinking and
such a broad scope of experience that the
ideology, government and documents that
they created stand as beacons in the annals

On this day in 2004 Ronald Wilson Reagan was
laid to rest in a hilltop ceremony in California.
Commentary: It was day of great sadness when
we bid farewell to one of our greatest leaders in
history. Yet, it is difficult to think of Reagan
without smiling.
Today Liberal Democrats, moderate republicans,
conservative republicans, libertarians,
Conservative independents are all scrambling to
embrace and own "Reaganism". Surely he would
chuckle at the spectacle.
Then, I imagine, he would sigh at how everyone
seems to misunderstandhis brand of
conservatism and how it fits into the big tent
fiasco.
Reagan was not born a conservative. He came to
it through study , reflection and changing his
mind here and there. Perhaps that is why when
he landed on Conservatism as his core ideology,
he landed so solidly. He never veered from the
course- he never compromised his principles or
ideals. So how is it that he he being lauded as the
father of the big tent by moderates & liberals?
It has little to do with Conservatism. It is about
communication and leadership. He knew how to
communicate his thoughts in a clear, and powerful
yet benign way. He listened. He was a gifted
listener. He was able to show respect for the
beliefs of others without ever intimating that he
would change his own philosophies to join them.
The Party today can announce its conservative
platform with vigor and conviction and still show
respect to those who do not agree. It only takes a
little leadership. Any of that around? --SJM

On this day in 1991, democratic elections for the

Commentary: It is astounding to think that a

even more oppressive, to begin a movement
toward freedom.
Russia still has a great distance to go before her

Russia was in the past. We are resembling old,
communist Russia in subtle and gradual ways a
little more each day.

On this day in history...
In 1778, British troops evacuated from the city
of Philadelphia. Under pressure from General
Washington's growing army and the approach
of a French naval fleet containing 11 war ships,
10,000 British troops with their 3,000 horses
fled to New York.
Commentary: We can only imagine how
daunting it must have been to have so many
thousand of well-funded and intimidating
visible "redcoats" in a key American City.
It was perseverance and determination on the
part of the colonists and their allies that
brought about this event. It must have been a
dramatic and exhilarating turn to be witnessed
by Philadelphians.
Perhaps we can be inspired to greater
perseverance in the battle we fight today.

Today's Basket We continue to watch the situation in California. Protection of the smelt fish continues to prevent the pumping of water to a huge portion of prime farmland. The loss of this growing season is destroying thousands of human lives- all for a fish that is not even indigenous to the region....

A Roar from the Right-
Daily Battlefield Communiques for
Conservatives on the Front Line:
This is war. Free Journalism vs
Government Propaganda-
ABC vs the American People.
June 24th is a very significant day. It is then that ABC will
formally give up any pretense at objective reporting.
The poor, gullible dopes that run ABC may even think that
what they are doing on June 24th, is harmless- sharing
access- really cool. These network execs are no match for
the predators that run the White House now. They are
using ABC to strike a deadly blow against Freedom
of Expression in our nation.
June 24th is a two-headed beast. First it is a chance for
THE ADMINISTRATION to further propagandize the
rolling disaster that is ObamaCare. Secondly, it is a
test balloon. Can THE ADMINISTRATION convince one
major network to abandon the Canons of Journalism
and promote one side ONLY of a complex issue? Well,
apparently, and as things stand today, the answer is a
resounding YES, a major network in America will
completely abandon the ethical standards that we call the
Canons of Journalism. Will the American people be so soft,
so docile, so lacking in our own integrity that we allow this
to occur without even a whimper? We say: No! It is our
belief that the American people will take a stand
against this and will prevail,
JOIN US IN ACTION. As tempting as it is to completely
turn off ABC and its affiliates, we must watch- at least for
24 hours. We must watch the commercials and take note
of every sponsor. Divide yourselves into teams so that
daytime and prime time periods are covered.
Find whatever contact information that you can on
sponsors, both local and national and call, FAX, E-Mail-
whatever you can do. It is not our goal to do harm to
American businesses. We are expressing to them
our extraordinary dissatisfaction with them for
financially enabling ABC to act as a propaganda
agent for one political view with an obvious and
deliberate attempt to shut out dissent. Make it clear to
these sponsors that you consider this not only unethical
but completely UnAmerican. Tell them that you expect them
to act quickly and effectively to stop this. Tell them we will
not stand by while they finance the birth of a
Pravda-style state-sponsored media in the United
States! And when referring to ABC, call them just that.
They may be the American Broadcasting Company, but the
use of the name American is an honor they do not deserve
at the moment.

On this day in history...
In 1885 the Statue of Liberty arrived in
New York from France.
Commentary: These days the concept of
"American exceptional ism" is rejected by
many - perhaps even the leader of our
country. As culturally chic and politically
correct as it is considered to be to apologize
for America and diminish the nation's
accomplishments and history, it is plainly
wrong.
Consider the significance of a country like
France, with roots tracing back to ancient
times bestowing this mammoth statue on a
nation barely more than a century old. This
was no small gesture. This was an act of
enormous symbolism in recognition of a
nation uniquely linked to human liberty
and-yes- exceptional. -sjm

TODAY'S BASKET PBS, the Public Broadcasting System, has begun to scale back any religious programming on its way to eliminating all such programming. Although they cite a law long ignored, an anti-God mentality is clearly at play. As long as all religions are treated fairly, there is no reason that the spiritual nature of Americans cannot receive as much attention as things like gardening or music.

More on the comprise of Abc...
Amazingly, there seem to be a lot of people out there who
do not grasp the significance of ABC"s voluntary
performance as the Democrat Party's mouthpiece. I hear
remarks such as "Bush did the same thing", its just a
normal 'perk' of the presidency", and the like. Not so. A
President making an address to explain a war is not the
same as political lobbying. The media never attempted to
shut out differing voices to protect a Bush agenda.
Obviously, ABC is not broadcasting from the White House
as a public service to share some ceremonial Presidential
function. The Obama they’ll present is the POLITICAL
LEADER OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY and the primary
spokesman for a controversial liberal agenda.
It is THAT fact and the fact that ABC is willfully and
deliberately acting to deprive its viewers of any opinion that
may differ from that Democrat political agenda that makes
it so incumbent upon us to fight, Obama’s Health Care is
NOT policy or law. It is merely Democrat-proposed
legislation and another assertion of Mr. Obama’s political,
not presidential influence.
The alliance between the Obama-led Democrat Party and
this heretofore commercial network may not yet fully
replicate PRAVDA, but it’s a shockingly aggressive step in
that direction. Every other issue pales if information and
communication are controlled. There is a stark need for
more organized, national opposition to this.
The Cool Conservative web magazine is promoting a
nationwide fight against ABC. We’re asking our readers to
contact the sponsors of ABC and affiliates to express our
outrage and to tell them that we expect them to act quickly
and aggressively to stop this. This is NOT a boycott.
Especially now, it is NOT our intent to do harm to American
businesses. However, we will not stand by while THEY
FINANCE this move toward a state-controlled media that
functions as the propaganda arm of one party and
ideology. Please HELP US SPREAD THIS MESSAGE.

in 1947 the Senate and Congress united to
override President Truman's veto and pass the
Taft-Hartley Act.
Commentary: This law was designed to impede
runaway power for labor unions. It forbade things
like "closed shops,", wildcat strikes and political
contributions to political campaigns. It allowed for
"right-to-work" laws in states.
It is absolutely astounding how the Obama
administration is bypassing the legislative path to
provide Labor Unions with unprecedented and
nearly limitless power-sjm
