If it weren't so tragic it would be funny. I think
of how many times I've said, "This is the
WORST thing Obama has done." Somehow I
think each new assault on liberty will stand
as the worst, but, alas, each time some new
political mortal sin is revealed.

So... Obama's sharing of Top Secret
information with our enemies and his
acquiescence  to allow a witch hunt against
Bush administration is the worst thing he has
done. Plainly, Obama has endangered our
country simply to allow the execution of a
vendetta.  We must hit the phones, e-mails
and post offices and make our voices loud
and clear. We must tell every possible
elected official and media outlet that WE
WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS! We must
acknowledge that we know it is too late to
prevent the harm that will come by giving
such helpful and comforting intelligence to
our enemies but that it is NOT too late to
stop this anti-Bush witch hunt now. There is
no constructive purpose to it. It offers
continuing opportunities for our enemies to
know what they should not know and it is
morally wrong to punish those who believed
they were doing right in defense of their
country. We have altered their aims and
intents with the power of our voice before.
We must do it again. --sjm

On this day in 1950, Chiang Kai-shek was
driven from the mainland of China by
communist forces. He and his followers
established a government-in-exile on the
Island of Taiwan.

Commentary: Prior to World War II, Chiang
Kai-Shek was a national leader in China's
revolt against imperial rule. However, after
the birth of the Republic of China, the
communist faction within revolutionary forces
broke away to establish sole rule by
communist leaders, most particularly Mao
Zedong. The lesson of communism and how
it manages to become the dominant force is
eirilly unchanged through history- the
communists took advantage of the chaos in
the wake of the Bolshevik Revolution- the
communists under the leadership of Castro
took advantage of the upheval following the
overthrow of Baptista.... It goes on and on.
Hopefully we have learned about totalitarian
opportunists and how they function.
Hopefully we will not be fooled by those who
create and exploit crises in order to gain
power.

Chiang Kai-shek spent his remaining life in
exile, watching helplessly while freedom after
freedom was stripped from the Chinese
people. Perhaps history most troubling
lesson on this day is that freedom is not so
easilly reclaimed once lost.

We are still basking in the glow from the
"Tea Party" phenomenon. It is important to
remember the intent of organizers and
instigators. It was not their goal to promote
any single political faction but rather to unify
all Americans behind a shared and simple
belief that their federal government should
be responsive to them- should handle the
people's money with responsibility,
discretion and common sense- should
engender efficiency by limiting its functions
to the core necessities not possible in state
and local governments.

This straightforward clarion calls of  "Stop
wasting our tax dollars!" and "Stop the wild,
uncontrolled growth of government." have
attracted a unique melding of individuals.
They may not all be conservatives but all
conservatives must share in this movement.

Our most important job now is to maintain
this network. Do what you can to stay in
contact with like-minded Tea Rebellion
advocates. Encourage and help with new
events. THIS is the crucial time- after the
tea's been dumped. We must not let our
network unravel or shrink and we must not
let our energy or fervor fade.  --sjm

On this day in 1800 The Library of Congress was
established with a budget of $5,000.00

Commentary: The Library is a great source of pride
to our nation. It is a collection of human thought
unparalleled by anything else on earth. In this day
when free expression teeters on the edge of great
challenges, it wise to reflect on the freedom that is
the foundation of our great library. As offended as I
was by Chaves' recent gift of an UnAmerican book
to our President, I would still fight for the right of
any lunatic liberal to read that book. It is oddly
ironic how Mark Levin's epic Liberty and Tyranny is
receiving a sort of "backdoor censorship" at the
hands of the of the media. They have tried to limit  
public exposure to author and book by denying him
the attention and courtesies always afforded to
bestselling authors. The even greater irony is that
willful Yankee book buyers seem to have their own
minds, keeping the book in its Number One slot. It
is shameful to imagine all the DC media moguls
dancing in desperate efforts to stifle Levin's words
in the very shadow of the Library of Congress!

Another event of historical significance
happened on this day in 1989. Protesting
students made their stand at Beijing's
Tiananmen Square. Surely these student's
knew of the odds against them. They knew
of the enormous power of the totalitarian
government they opposed in a quest for
freedom. They knew of the government's
cold and deadly treatment of any dissenting
voice. Sadly, they must have known that a
frightened world would stand by and watch
their efforts without lifting a finger.

They balanced all that terrible knowledge
against the opportunity to shine a light on
their loss of freedom- an opportunity to
inspire others. Many died that day. I like to
think it was not in vain.

As Conservatives the lesson we can learn is
simple and stark. If these young students
could stand against the Goliath that they
did, than we cannot even consider backing
away from the battle before us. We cannot
become discouraged or lose hope. Think of
Tiananmen Square and stand strong. --sjm

On this day in 1861 President Abraham Lincoln
suspended citizen's right to file a Habeas Corpus
petition.

Commentary: Nothing is more import today than
the examination of presidential powers. Habeas
Corpus allows an incarcerated person to be
brought before a judicial body to determine if
there is just cause for incarceration in the first
place. This right is held by many legal scholars
as the most sacred civil right while the US
Constitution does permit its suspension in such
an extreme situation as putting down a rebellion.  
Lincoln did receive great criticism for his actions
but was defiant in his insistence that the
suspension was necessary to preserve the
Union. As rebel leaders could then be held
indefinitely and without legal recourse, Lincoln's
eventual success seemed to be the prevailing
factor.

Barack Obama likes to consider himself the new
Lincoln. If he were the type to give straight
answers, I wonder what he would say about
Lincoln's actions consider against the backdrop
of the Bush Administration's War on Terror.
Would he see that sometimes a Chief Executive
must make a difficult decision and perhaps even
doing something they might find repugnant to
preserve the Country- its stability, safety and
security of its people? Or will Barack Obama
ignore any connection between the two
situations and simply study incoln's proclamation
of Martial Law and suspension of Habeas
Corpus as lesson plans in how to take
advantage of a crisis to establish extended
presidential power?

On this day in 1635 John Harvey, Governor
of colonial Virgina was accused of treason
and removed from office by the House of
Burgess and returned to England with
commissioners seeking his impeachment..

Commentary: Harvey was a poster boy for
political corruption. He came to power not by
election by through appointment by King
Charles I. Charles had recognized the
opportunity for great personal wealth
through the control and manipulation of
Virginia's thriving tobacco industry. Charles
had interrupted the free market and placed
government limitations on the growing and
sale of tobacco. Harvey was one of the few
people permitted to purchase tobacco as an
agent of the King. It was Harvey's reward to
be appointed Governor.

John Harvey had a reputation for violence
and bullying and had no experience or talent
for governance. What he did have was the
support of the King for whom he made
money. Eventually his dictatorial behavior
resulted in the actions against him. However,
the King would have none of it and returned
Harvey to the colonies with even greater
wealth and power.

Commandeering the people's labors and
commerce for use in establishing political
power is one very direct road to rebellion.
On this day in 1996 the Number One Song

Baby" by Mariah Carey.

Yesterday, Arlen Specter made the
ideological defection begun with his Stimulus
Bill vote official. Those who would see
Conservatism flounder have seized the
party-switch as their golden opportunity to
drive home their contention that the
Republican Party will fail it does not migrate
into the center.

Total garbage! Think of it logically. For
years we've had a handful of "moderates"
who have been unreliable for GOP support
in the Senate and House. Each driven by
individual political motivations, they've
droned on and on with the big tent anthem.
When Party officials finally bent to their will
and let one of their loudest singers do the
presidential solo, the results were
disastrous. In John McCain there was no
contrast- no alternative. That is why we lost.
WE ALWAYS LOSE WHEN WE DON'T
OFFER A REAL CHOICE. That's it- plain
and simple. Nothing a specter may do, no
words from a pundit or "journalist" can
change it. Specter was never dependable
opposition to Obama.

Ignore it. Specter voted in direct opposition
to the will of the people and then had to pay
for it with the advent of opposition to him in
his primary. What should we have done, told
him his backing of outrageous spending was
perfectly alright because he lives in a
Democrat state? I don't think so. If we coddle
the Specter's just to keep and "R" by their
names, we will not win in the end anyway
and we will not find strength giving into such
veiled extortion.  --sjm

On this day in 1924 open revolt took place
in Santa Clara, Cuba.

Commentary: After a tumultuous struggle for
independence from Spain, conditions
continued to be extremely unsettled. Against
the backdrop of often disastrous economic
conditions brought on by fluctuating sugar
prices, there were several changes in
regime, the rulers often dictators. Such was
the case in 1924. Eventually Baptista would
come to power twice, finally being
overthrown by Castro.

So often in the history of Cuba desperate
economic situations have made the people
vulnerable- bartering their freedom for
promises of stability. Castro's iron-clad hold
on the sugar industry has held the people in
check since the 1950's. Prospects of
freedom for the Cuban people look bleak.
On this day in 1981 the Number One Song

(9 to 5)" by Sheena Easton.

This Day in History:

Conservatives on the Front Line:

The repercussions of Arlen Specrter's
change of party registration are so dramatic
that it warrants discussion again today. If
you missed yesterday's Roar that was our
topic, as well.  

The culminating chorus of people saying
that this action signals the death of the
Republican Party. To see how ridiculous that
statement is imagine if another Republican
like DeMint, Bond, Grasley or McConnell
had jumped ship. THAT would have been
news of the earth-shaking variety. What that
signaled for the GOP would have been dire.
But for the perennially pouty malcontent
Specter to defect has no such drama in
comparison.

Countless self-appointed GOP undertakers
claim that Specter was driven to this by a
heartless Conservative faction. Step back
and look at that for a moment. Specter is
supposed to be experienced and smart, yet
the entirety of his Party in the Congress (for
purposes of reality we won't even count
Snow & Collins) and the overwhelming voice
of his Republican constituents begged him
not to vote for the Stimulus Bill. Everybody
else could see it for the sloppily constructed
Trojan horse for ill advised social programs-
but not Specter. He did the driving. His
actions were an insult to the Party and to the
people. He has no right to play the victim
card now. The only alternative course would
have been for GOP leaders to tell Specter
that it was fine for him to betray is fellow
Republican Senators anytime he felt like it
and that there would never be any
repercussions. No, Specter's Republicanism
was too mercurial; his support too wispy. We
all better off to know where we stand. --sjm

These are dark days but we are not

On this day in 1789 George Washington
was inaugurated as the Nation's first
President.

Commentary: Washington has become an
icon to us- almost a cliché'. However, if we
really study the man we can see how
perfectly suited his was to the role of FIRST
President. He had written to James Madison
about his realization of the enormous
importance of doing things for the first time,
thereby setting precedents. Further saying
that he hoped on his part that "these
precedents may be fixed on true principles".

This is a startling contrast to the brash
impulsiveness of today's President.

The dramatic comparisons between Obama
and Washington are endless. Washington
tried scrupulously to abide by the
Constitution and to observe the separations
of power and checks and balances among
the three branches of the federal
government. Never- never would
Washington have played political games with
such structured.

Washington truly hoped for a government
above excess political machinations.
Contrast that with our current president who
lacks the self control to pass up any
opportunity to snidely condemn his
predecessor and political nemesis.

When Washington took his oath in New York
City on April 30, 1789, it was indeed a day of
good fortune for our nation.

Yesterday, Jon Stewart said that President
Truman was a war criminal. Absurd and
unconscionable. Obama and company have
opened this Pandora's box of
self-flagellation and mindless recriminations
of the past! It is up to us to close that box.
Nobody is happy about the atomic bomb.
But the fact is that our enemies were racing
to that finish line. I will not apology to nitwit
like Stewart because I glad that our side- the
side of freedom won the race. And never
mind that most analysts have told us that
actions actually saved millions of lives.
Truman's decision must have been
gut-wrenching. I know it was courageous.

If we start accepting this kind of behavior it
will not be long until every active and retired
member of the military is called a murderer.
We must not allow the actions that Obama
has inspired to end up at that awful place for
those who would defend us.

I for one am going to find that Stewart idiot's
show and I am going to write down each and
every sponsor. I am going to let them know
that I am very disappointed in them for
making Stewart's behavior possible. I am
going to tell them that I will share my feelings
with everyone that I can. Join me!--sjm

On this day in 1877 President Rutherford B.
Hayes withdrew the last of military troops
from the South, thereby ending the period of
Reconstruction.

Commentary: History's lesson today is a
simple one: we are, as a people, survivors.
As incredibly horrible as the Civil War was-
as costly in lives and property- as many
mistakes as were made in the period of
rebuilding- we survived it. We not only
survived it, we emerged as a stronger,
better fairer nation.

Whatever happens now, we will survive it.

This Day in History:

The passing of Jack Kemp has produced a
flood of well-deserved accolades. As a
conservative, the name of Jack Kemp has
always been synonymous for me with
economic growth based in tax cuts. Kemp
was instrumental in the analysis and policy
development that comprised what we call the
"Reagan Tax Cuts". Thanks to Kemp's
brilliant efforts we, as Conservatives, do not
just have a theory of the benefits of tax
reductions, we have a history proof of
economic boons that resulted.

In the years to come as American individuals
and businesses are devastated by Obama
policies, we will need to remind others of the
Reagan/Kemp economic philosophies.

Whether or not you agreed with his every
stand or statement, Kemp's unwavering
determination to speak his mind clearly and
with conviction is an inspiration to every
Conservative communicator.  --sjm

On this day in 1776 Rhode Island was the
first of the thirteen colonies to declare its
independence from Great Britain.

Commentary: We should never
underestimate the courage it took for
colonists who came to this continent as
British subjects or were born of British
subjects to reject British rule. Sometimes
we envision the colonists as all despising
England and seeing separation as the
inevitable outcome. We must remember,
however, that being royal subjects was
deeply woven into their
lives-governmentally, socially and culturally,
and had been for centuries. To reject their
traditions must have required much courage
and resolution, even against the backdrop
of a cry for liberty and economic autonomy.

Rhode Island also refused to ratify the
Constitution without a Bill of Rights. That
independent streak must still be there and
conservatives must continue to reach out.

Battlefield Communiques for
Conservatives on the Front Line:

Today is National Teacher's Day. Teaching
is a noble profession and one of great
importance. However, many of those who
administer, govern and control the political
direction of educational programs have not
acted with much nobility in recent years.
These people have forgotten that the
ultimate goal of American education is to
objectively impart knowledge. They have
forgotten that instructors must leave their
personal politics at the classroom door.
They have forgotten that their job is to
facilitate critical thinking in students so that
they might formulate their own opinions- not
to spoon feed their own opinions to students.
In short they have come to believe that their
job is to foster socially liberal thinking in
America's youth.

They were able to broadly establish this
agenda in the absence of opposition. One
major action we must take to rescue our
nation IS to oppose this. Take the Tea Party
attitude into school board meetings. .Audit
classes, interview students and parents in
your own areas. Examine textbooks and
handouts. Make a case for an
unprofessional effort to indoctrinate rather
than observe objectivity. Put a spotlight on
it. Protest it. Talk about it. Make waves
about it. And keep at it until balance and
fairness returns. Each of us joining as we
can in such efforts in our own school
districts is our only hope to restore American

On this day in 1961 Commander Alan
Shepard, Jr. Became the first American in
outer space.

Commentary: It was a sterling day for this
country when Alan Shepard traveled on
Friendship 7 up into the atmosphere 115
miles. Fifteen minutes later when his capsule
splashed down in the Atlantic, a nation
cheered with pride.

Although there are always critics who
condemn America's space program as an
economic waste, there is a surfeit of
research proving that the scientific efforts of
the space program spawned tremendous
progress and discovery in nearly every area
of our existence. It is always that way. The
spirit of exploration also embodies scientific
curiosity. All commercial benefits, all military
advantage, all desire for acclamation aside,
the spirit of exploration- the desire for new
knowledge and discovery is essential in
humanity. It is at the core of every
developmental step we have taken. Nothing
demonstrates this principle better than
America's space program.

Candidate Obama made noise about
maintaining and nurturing space exploration.
It would be wonderful if that were one of the
campaign promises he kept. However the
behavior of his administration thus far not
bode well. Team Obama is feverishly
engendering a feeling of self-involvement
among the citizenry. The "what will it do for
me?" attitude that they are creating is part of
the class warfare effort that allows them
power over private industries. Sadly, things
like the space program- that don't offer an
instant return in a person's- life will be a
casualty of this administration's war on free
enterprise.

Let us remember Eisenhower's efforts and
his recognition of the unparalleled
importance of the protection of voting rights
and a fair and reliable election system.

Ordinarily, voter registration drives pop up
around election days. We need to pay
attention all the time. We need to encourage
efforts by organizations at every opportunity.
We must turn a spotlight on unethical
groups like ACORN and make it impossible
for them to ever again commit the level of
voter fraud that they did in 2008. We must
be vigilant in fighting any legislation that
would give the sacred right to vote to
anyone who is not an citizen. Pay attention
to local and county races in your area for
many of these officials can wield tremendous
influence in the area of fair elections.

We've seen what can happen when officials
and canvassing boards fail in their duties.
The days of the dangling chads will fade into
the distance as our future appears to be
headed for a day when large groups of
people are, bribed, paid, manipulated or
intimidated to deliver their votes as
tradeable commodities. The time to combat

Eisenhower signed into law the 1960 Civil
Rights Act.

Commentary: The PR machine that is the
Democrat Party has done an excellent job of
painting themselves as the only party
supporting civil rights efforts and the
Republican Party as one that is apathetic
and/or in opposition to civil rights.

In reality, it is the Republican Party that led
the way in the area for civil rights for many,
many decades. Eisenhower saw problems-
primarily the denial of the right to vote to
black Americans. His desire to make sure
that all American citizens had the right to
vote and that voting rights were not abused
or manipulated drove him to accomplish this
legislation.

In 1964 it was decided that broader more
expansive civil rights legislation was needed
and thusly the 1964 Civil Rights Act. It is
regrettable, however, that the very real
concern and efforts of that traditional
Republican, Dwight Eisenhower are not
recognized and understood today.

Today is the National Day of Prayer, a day
intended for Americans of all faiths to unite
in prayer for their Nation.

In 1775, our Founders called upon the
people to join in a day of prayer for strength
and guidance in the forming of their new
nation. In 1952 President Harry Truman
proclaimed there to be a National Day of
Prayer, leaving the date up to each
subsequent President. It was President
Reagan that fixed the holiday on the first
Thursday of May.

President George W. Bush very publicly
celebrated the day. Our current President
will make the usual proclamation so as to
please the religious but will not have much
public recognition of the day so as to please
the anti-religious. For him it is another
National Day of Tightrope-Walking.

Beating the drum of the separation of
church and state", the anti-religigous forces
seem to be gaining ground. But the battle
lines they have drawn are false. Only if a
President ordered a citizen to pray or
ordered a citizen to join a designated church
or allowed a specific religion an actual role
in the government would there be a violation
of the separation doctrine. Since those
things are not occurring, there is no basis
for complaint. A president has a right to
make proclamations and speeches and
attend events that recognize the feelings
and beliefs of the majority of the people.

Most of us do pray in some form to some
supreme being. Let's hope that most of us
take a moment to pray for our Nation today.

On this day in 1915 the British luxury liner
the
Lusitania was sunk by the German
submarine U-20.

Commentary: On April 30th the Lusitania
was at  the New York harbor taking on
supplies and cargo. A few days later she
had reached the Irish Channel en route to
Liverpool. Nearly 2,000 people were on
board, passengers and crew. Of those
1,298 perished. The sinking of the civilian
vessel by a military submarine sent shock
waves around the world. It was the result of
a perfect storm of mistakes, misdeeds and
miscommunication.

It is now known that a shipment of munitions
for British troops were on board, although
highly top secret at the time. The German
submarine had been in the area sinking all
ships, of all sorts in its paths, sometimes with
and sometimes without warning. The
German government had published a
warning of possible attacks but it was largely
ignored. The Captain of the Lusitania opted
to operate only some of the boilers, to
reduce speed and not to zigzag. Ships had
been sunk the day before where the
Lusitania was headed  but nobody warned
them. No one heard the lookout warn of the
approaching torpedo. The single torpedo
took out the power and caused the ship to
list. The ship was designed in such a way
that water tight doors on the ship could not
be closed without power and half the
lifeboats could not be accessed because of
the list...

In every period of history there are
treacherous waters to navigate. Disaster
occurs when people fail to adequately take
precautions and to consider the ultimate
ramifications of their actions.

Another onslaught against a citizen's right to
bear arms is on its way. This is nothing new
but the backdrop for the play is new. Today
every branch of our government will be
marshaled to remove this right.

Well-intentioned people will attempt to sway
the general public with anecdotes and
statistics about the deaths of innocents by
firearm. For the purposes of this argument,
every victim of such a death at the hands of
any gang, drug lord's forces or organized
crime personnel, should be eliminated.
These people are professional. Whether
they procure a weapon legally is in
minuscule detail. Gun laws are irrelevant to
them.

As for the remaining cases, yes it is
unfortunate when someone is shot or killed
with a legal firearm, but if someone has the
intent to harm they'll get it done- through
another channel if necessary. Depriving the
rest of us of our rights will not change that.

We are responsible people, we
conservatives. We don't advocate that
minors, the insane or convicted criminals
should have the right to bear arms.

Give Congress a clear and constant
message. "If you want to make our country
safer, forget some of your pet social projects
and use that money to aid law enforcement
in getting arsenals out of the hands of the
criminal element and leave the law-abiding
citizens alone!"  --sjm

On this day in 1945 the final surrender of
German troops marked the victory in Europe
for Allied forces. Celebrated on this day as
VE (Victory Europe) Day.

Commentary: Many of the problems that
George Bush encountered in the
communication concerning the war in Iraq
can be traced to our understanding of war
itself.

As a people, we are still psychologically in
the days of World War II. We expect a war to
be clearly defined, as World War II was. We
expect easily recognizable enemies and
conflicts with clearly marked beginnings and
endings, such as VE Day.

Those days are gone. Today we cope with
guerrilla warfare and terrorists who
deliberately avoid uniforms. When Bush
talked about "Weapons of Mass
Destruction", we thought about huge
bombers and bombs and tanks and
MASSIVE things. Instead the modern day
WMD can be a tiny vile, a small cannister, a
small dirty bomb in the trunk of car.  Not
finding them after months of announced
plans to come and find them should not
have surprised anyone. Had Bush and his
people realized that the American people
needed to see war through a modern prism
instead the movie/VE parameters, his
communication about the war would have
been more effective.

The definitions of a victory are not as clear
as they were in 1945. The complexities of
today's world governments, powerful forces
that move outside of governments make a
victory a shadowy and slippery target.

In recent days, I've heard, again, several
pundits and politicos bemoaning the past
failures of the Republican Party to hold the
line on spending. OK. No argument. I was a
angry as anyone.

Imagine two little boys, one a cousin visiting
from the city for the summer with his
counterpart of the same age. The summer
before the country cousin had disobeyed his
parents and squandered all of allowance
foolishly against the orders of his parents.
He'd been yelled at and grounded. He'd
learned his lesson and tried from then
forward to improve. The visiting cousin was
a very naughty boy. He spent his own
allowance very foolishly and then stole his
cousin's and spent that. He "borrowed from
his aunt's purse and his uncle's wallet and
spent all of that. He took his cousin's toys
and gave them away. There was no end to
his antics. The aunt and uncle responded to
all of this by saying that the trend toward
bad behavior had begun last summer. They
repeatedly brought up their own son's
comparatively minor misdeeds of the past
and always linked it to the current and
outrageous behavior of his cousin.

Sound ridiculously stupid? It is but no more
stupid than the current trend to berate the
GOP for past sins as part of any discussion
of the current Democrat outrage.

Just as the country boy's parents should
have accepted his efforts at change, let the
past go and just encouraged new efforts, we
should all do the same for our current
Republican Senators and Representatives.
Praise them for their efforts to keep
terrorists outside of our country and do it as
vocally and as frequently as you can.
They've been locked in the woodshed long

to the Union as the 32nd State.

Commentary: Minnesota has made many
contributions in the history of her statehood.
 However, It now seems likely that Minnesota
may soon do something that will dwarf
everything else. Soon Minnesota may be
gracing our Nation's highest ranking
governing body with Al Franken. It is hard to
believe that this creature may soon have the
power to influence legislation that will impact
life in the other 49 states.

Those two words: "Al Franken" should stand
as a lesson to us all that local politics is the
platform for state politics and state politics is
extremely important. I'm sure that if not
today, then soon, many Minnesotans,
Republican and not will wish they'd done
more in that regard.

Even if you tried to avoid it, you have
probably heard clips of the rather annoying
voice of comedic actress Wanda Sykes as
she stepped across the lines of propriety at
the recent White House Correspondents
Dinner. Here at The Cool Conservative
we're all about satire and good natured
kidding of public figures. What Sykes did
does not qualify as satire, kidding or even
humor.

Her jab at Governor Sarah Palin's moral
values were simply gross and in poor taste.
It told us nothing new about Palin but a lot
about Sykes' crude and common
perspective.  The most troubling part of the
evening was Sykes' tasteless trashing of
Rush Limbaugh.  Her ridicule of his past
prescription drug addiction and wish that his
kidney's would fail has attracted a lot of
attention as have the video clips of the
President laughing during the "below the
belt" comments. I imagine these remarks
barely made a ripple with Limbaugh. What is
noteworthy is that sykes accused Limbaugh
of being in league with 9-11 hijackers- of
acting against the best interests of our
military-  Of being comparable to Bin Laden-
of committing treason.

We don't joke about any of those in this
country. We have to speak out strongly
about Sykes' reprehensible behavior. We
cannot even appear to tolerate this. Sykes
appears on a CBS show called
The New
Adventures of Old Christine.

I do not advocate boycotting the show. Most
of the people involved with the production
are probably good people and not deserving
of punishment because of Sykes' actions.
However, it is a good idea to take a moment
and let the network, the producers and the
sponsors of the show know that now
watching Sykes in any context is a very
unpleasant experience. --sjm

On this day in 1949 The Berlin Blockade
ended.

Commentary: Following World War II
Germany and Berlin into occupation zones
held by the Soviet Union France, Great
Britain and the United States. The Soviet
Union, controlling East Germany, feared an
alliance from the other three and blockaded
all transportation routes between the city of
Berlin and West Germany

The United States and Great Britain
responded by launching a airlift effort to
supply food and goods to the isolated city.
The Soviets did not believe this effort would
succeed, but it did. During 321 days,
227,000 flights deprived the Soviets of the
opportunity to leverage control. After an
allied  trade embargo against the Soviets,
the blockade was lifted.

This clearly demonstrates that in dealing
with an unfriendly power goals can be
accomplished trough determination and
commitment and that when words are
backed up with actions, success will
eventually come.

We are used to saying the acronym ACLU.
Amazingly the "A" stands for AMERICAN.
Yes, that's right the American Civil Liberties
Union.

The ACLU has gained incredible notoriaty
by pursuing many, many far left causes.
Every once in a while they will even appear
on the same side as Conservatives.
Conservatives have been tolerant of these
people, for the most part, I believe
considering them to be well-intentioned but
misguided.

Tolerance for the ACLU on any level is no
longer appropriate.  Their latest stunt, at
least in my book is so far beyond the line
that they do not even deserve to use the
name "American" in their organizational
name.

The ACLU has aggressively pursued their  
right to have old pictures of questionable
and openly improper treatment of foreign
troops and detainees at the hands of
American military personnel.

The issue here is not whether or not
infractions occurred. I'm sure some did- if
not it would be the first time in any military
operation in the history of mankind. There
have been many investigations. Offenses
have been found. Corrective measures have
been taken. These pictures do not
represent new instances of abuse, so
seeking justice could not be the ACLU goal.

Keeping this information confidential has not
deprived a single citizen oh civil liberties. No,
it is clear that the goal of the ACLU is to do
harm to American troops. We are at war.
Their efforts to share this with the world will
result in greater vulnerability for our troops
and will most likely engender new terroristic
efforts against us domestically.  

No more polite shrugs at the mention of the
ACLU. Their actions are now treasonous
and openly giving aid and comfort to our
enemies will causing harm to our own
troops. The protection of civil liberties can
no longer be accepted as their mission. No
person should be able to support  or
participate in any activity with this group
without this treasonous behavior being
highlighted.

Consider the impact on our troops. Imagine
how these courageous young men and
women so far from home must be feeling to
see their fellow Americans working so hard
to damage their reputations- to destroy their
morale- to give so much public
encouragement to those who would kill
them. Do whatever you can to scuttle these
fools. They have crossed a line that cannot
be recrossed..--sjm

On this day in 1607 three ships carrying
English colonists landed at Jamestown
Island on the James River in Virginia. The
next day they disembarked and established
their settlement.

Commentary: Jamestown, the first
permanent English colony. This colonization
was a commercial venture. These original
settlers were entrpeneurs, men, from the
Virgina trading Company, dedicated to
gaining an early foothold in trade with native
Americans.

Captain John Smith eventually served as
Governor. Among his other strentghs
remebered by history was Smith's ability to
deal with the Native Americans. Smith
recognized that weakness was not
respected in native culture. He dealt with
firmness and the threat of force. He never
acted against the Indians in aggression or
without cause, but was extremely successful
in his dealings because the tribes in the
area knew that he would take whatever
action needed if he were given cause.

Our current President could learn a great
deal from Smith. Unfortunately, he will soon
learn that he cannot negotiate from a
position of strength because he has left no
threats even to be imagined by our enemies.

The ballgame is not over, but for the
moment can enjoy a good inning as
President Obama has announced that the
federal government will continue the fight
against the ACLU's efforts to share with our
enemies photographs of some past
misdeeds in interrogation. I suspect that the
team Obama would like this hot potato to
end up in the hands of the Supreme Court,
absolving them of culpability, but for now we
should be grateful and give praise where
praise is due.

In the wake of  Obama's seeming change of
heart, what have we heard all day? What we
have heard in a gathering chorus ids that
Dick Cheney should stop speaking out.
Pundit after pundit: "It's unseemly for him to
speak out", He's taking the spotlight from
new GOP leadership", "He's old news. He
should go home", and on and on.

Is it a coincidence that we hear this today?.
No, No, of course not. Cheney stepped into
the spotlight with great deliberation. He was
able to share that spotlight with this and
other security fiasco's that will eventually
cost American lives.  There was pressure
brought to bear on Obama by Military and
intelligence leaders and Republicans, but
Cheney has as much a role in today's small
victory as anybody. His appearances must
be effective or there would not have been
such a choreographed effort to muzzle him.

It is true that Former President Bush has
behaved with remarkable class in his silence
regarding his successor, but these are
remarkable times and Cheney has been
absolutely to step up in his belief that his
speaking out would result in keeping
American troops and civilians more secure.

Take every opportunity than you can find to
thank the former Vice President for
continuing to protect us.

And the next time someone brings up topics
like class and appropriate behavior, you
might mention that Obama's total inability to
pass up even a small opportunity to make a
snide dig at President Bush is, it itself, quite
a break with tradition. --sjm

On this day in 1804 Lewis and Clark left St.
Louis on a year-long expedition to find an
overland route to the Pacific Ocean.

Commentary: Within the same year that he
made the Louisiana Purchase, President
Thomas Jefferson commissioned this
expedition primarily as a military mission.
Heading up the effort were Captain
Merriwethewr Lewis and Lieutenant William
Clark.  

The expedition literally and figuratively
opened the west. Lewis and Clark returned
with invaluable samples and sketches of
animal and pant life and surveys and maps
of the previously uncharted areas. They
also encountered native peoples during
their exploration.

If we take a step back and examine the
westward expansion that followed the Lewis
and Clark Expedition, we can see something
marvelous. There is an excellence balance
between agriculture and agrarian settlement
and urban/industrialized areas.  Despite the
incessant moanings of environmental
extremists, there is still much land left in
condition not far from that Lewis and Clark
would have encountered.   This is not just a
strong and great nation it is an expansive
and beautiful country. To be proud is not
just our right- in many ways it is a
responsibility and a debt that we owe to
Jefferson and Lewis and Clark.

Conservatives on the Front Line:

There is a lot of talk about
intelligence-gathering these days.
Conservatives need do a little spy work, too,

I recommend that Conservatives take some
time on occasion to peruse the offerings of
The Huffington Post and The Daily Kos.

It is interesting to see what "The Left" is
thinking- how the interpret the news.
However, the most invaluable role that these
kinds of pages can provide for
Conservatives is helping us to identify
friends from foes and detractors from allies.

If the Huffington Post is praising somebody,
you can take it to the bank that their words
are not helping our cause. Sadly, John
McCain and members of his family often get
high praise on the left sites. Today people
like dick Cheney and Michelle Bachmann
are being lambasted. A sure sign that they
are making points.

It sounds odd, but you can learn more about
the battle being fought for Conservatism
from these left-leaning sites than from a
Conservative site (except for this one of
course).

In the wake of  Obama's seeming change of

by death. Working in conjunction with Great
Britain, The US Navy sent four vessels to
patrol the West-African coast in search of
slavers. The operation lasted four years.

dedicated to diminish the pride we all have
in our country. One of their favorite weapons
is the issue of slavery. Slavery is, indeed,
horrendous in every conceivable way. It is

There is a lot of talk about
intelligence-gathering these days.
Conservatives need do a little spy work, too,

I recommend that Conservatives take some
time on occasion to peruse the offerings of
The Huffington Post and The Daily Kos.

It is interesting to see what "The Left" is
thinking- how the interpret the news.
However, the most invaluable role that these
kinds of pages can provide for
Conservatives is helping us to identify
friends from foes and detractors from allies.

If the Huffington Post is praising somebody,
you can take it to the bank that their words
are not helping our cause. Sadly, John
McCain and members of his family often get
high praise on the left sites. Today people
like dick Cheney and Michelle Bachmann
are being lambasted. A sure sign that they
are making points.

It sounds odd, but you can learn more about
the battle being fought for Conservatism
from these left-leaning sites than from a
Conservative site (except for this one of
course).

In the wake of  Obama's seeming change of
heart, what have we heard all day? What we
have heard in a gathering chorus ids that
Dick Cheney should stop speaking out.
Pundit after pundit: "It's unseemly for him to
speak out", He's taking the spotlight from
new GOP leadership", "He's old news. He
should go home", and on and on.

Is it a coincidence that we hear this today?.
No, No, of course not. Cheney stepped into
the spotlight with great deliberation. He was
able to share that spotlight with this and
other security fiasco's that will eventually
cost American lives.  There was pressure
brought to bear on Obama by Military and
intelligence leaders and Republicans, but
Cheney has as much a role in today's small
victory as anybody. His appearances must
be effective or there would not have been
such a choreographed effort to muzzle him.

It is true that Former President Bush has
behaved with remarkable class in his silence
regarding his successor, but these are
remarkable times and Cheney has been
absolutely to step up in his belief that his
speaking out would result in keeping
American troops and civilians more secure.

Take every opportunity than you can find to
thank the former Vice President for
continuing to protect us.

And the next time someone brings up topics
like class and appropriate behavior, you
might mention that Obama's total inability to

If you have subjected yourself to any of the
"news" coverage from the establishment
media and much from FOX was designed to
make you feel out-of-step, narrow-minded
and to be over-reacting, if you had a
negative reaction to the commencement
worship of Obama there.

To object to that spectacle was reasonable;
neither narrow nor extreme. It is becauseof
Obama's own profoundly pro-abortion
ACTIONS  in his short reign that beg a
negative reaction.

Every time he has had an opportunity to DO
something that would impact abortion he  
has taken the road that leads to more
abortions, easier abortions, punishment of
medical people that oppose abortions, more
funding for abortions, the vilification of
people who oppose abortions and more.
Yet, despite this incredibly robust record of
pro abortion activism as the Nation's leader
and before that in the Illinois legislature, the
man stood up there in front of a pathetically
mesmerized graduates and pretended to be
reaching out to pro life concerns.  His words
would have been just so much political pap
anyway, but to SAY WORDS about
lessening the number of abortions when his
ACTIONS will, without any doubt, have the
opposite impact is intolerable.

Yet, most of the administrators and students
that comprise Notre Dame had no problem
tolerating such hypocrisy.  A few days
before his Notre Dame appearance, Obama
had spoken to Arizona State University, but
unlike Notre Dame, ASU had opted not to
confer an honorary degree on him. I don't
believe their decision was about life or any
other specific issue. They said that they felt
the degree would be in recognition of
Obama's contributions as President but that
he had not been in office long enough yet.

ASU has subsequently been raked over the
coals by left-leaning news and entertainment
entities. With all the vindictiveness that has
come to mark Obama and his supporters,
there is now an effort to destroy Arizona
State University.

So- if you donate to Notre Dame, transfer
your contribution to ASU. Every
Conservative who can afford it, should send
a few bucks to ASU. Spread the word.

Congress acted to control foriegn
immigration by establishing the quota
system.

Commentary: This issue was probably as
thorny in 1921 as it is today. This country
did not emerge as so many others had from
peoples moving and reorganizing within
geographic areas where people had been
for centuries. This country emeged from a
"new world", an unexplored continent. With
the exception of the Native Americans, this
country was bour out of immigration.

It is natural for Americans to be sympathetic
to those who come here with dreams of a
better life. It has always been our first
instinct to welcome all.

But it is the phrase "a better life" that is the
crux of the problem. In 1921, Congress
realized that a better life could not be
maintained here for anyone if some controls
were not instituted.

To maintain order, safety and productivity
for our country, the welcome mat cannot be
out all of the time. We must know who is
here and those who wish to be part of our
society should be welcomed but should also
be expected to obey our laws and
regulations.

let us know that they will be enforcing
stricter CAFE standards for cars. The
upshot is that theses people have taken
their desire to conserve gas to such an

or club, etc- not even if you have to
travel among lots of huge trucks every
day and want a safer, more substantial  
vehicle- even if you need to haul things,

As the worsening economic situation in Las
Vegas becomes both increasingly worse and
well-known to the public, I've been hearing
little "mini-debates" springing up as to
whether or not the President intended harm
to Vegas tourism when he cast corporate
travel there in such a negative light.

The answer is YES.  Seldom does anything
occur in this White House outside of the
well-choreographed agenda and this is no
exception.

Harry Reid, who
always does Obama's
bidding (even on the rare occasion it doesn't
outwardly seem so) has a son, Rory. Rory is
very active in Nevada Democrat politics and
is currently a county commissioner. Rory
has been busy for months dispatching any
Democrat opposition for the Dem nomination
for Governor and he has been aggressive in
criticism of the sitting Republican Governor,
Jim Gibbons. Gibbons is not terribly popular
and if the economy tanks, Rory could have
the Governorship in the bag. It is obvious
that these political considerations are what
drive Obama in his refusal to meet with
Gibbons, despite his carefully crafted
"I'm-the-diplomat-who-will-talk-to-anybody"
PR image. Obama's had ample time to
counteract his words if they were not
intended, but he has failed to do so. Clearly,
economic woes in Nevada right now are just
what the Reid dynasty needs,

Conservatives, don't help the President
cherry pick vacation destinations for us for
political ends. Go to Vegas and, moreover,
do what you can to keep Rory out of the
Governor's Mansion. Two powerful Reids in
lockstep with the Obama agenda are two too

On this day in 1774 the British Parliament
enacted the Restraining Acts, more
popularly known as the Coercive Acts

Commentary: These acts came into being in
direct response to the Boston Tea Party and
the growing anti-British attitude among
colonists. There were four pieces of
legislation contained. The Port of Boston
was closed until colonists agreed that the
tea tax was justified and demanded
restitution for the tea in the harbor. Although
the quartering of British soldiers in  public
buildings, the Coercive Acts included private
homes in the structures in which the forced
housing of soldiers could occur.

Perhaps the most devastating of the
Coercive Acts was the Administration of
Justice Act, Under this local charters were
abrogated and town meetings were severely
limited and elected officials were replaced
with royal appointees with massive powers.

The British government was making efforts
to cripple colony and local governments and
replace them with one, all-powerful central
governmental entity.

It is alarming to see States battling for rights
against a growing central government that is
appointing Czars and commissions with
more power than any elected official. With
the advent of the Obama Administration we
seem to be coming full circle.

not a divergance from our civility but
protection of it.

On this day in 1947 The Truman Doctrine
was employed bringing aid to Greece and
Turkey

Commentary: In its simplest terms the
Truman Doctrine expressed the intention of
the United States to aid, as needed, other
nations in danger of losing freedom to
communist aggression. Some historians are
now critical of Truman, suggesting that he
"over-reacted" to the Soviet threat. However,
history has also uncovered much
documentation chronicling plans to defeat
thE Us and dominate the world dating back
to the 20's.

Just as it is today, in 1947 the northern tier
of the Mediterranean was key to security in
the area and to control of the oil industry.
The Soviet Union did have openly known
plans to invade and absorb Greece and
Turkey, just for staters. How different the
picture of the world would be if Truman had
not adopted this Doctrine, for it played a
vital role of protecting freedom in these two
and several other nations.

It should be assumed that President Truman
followed the course he believed to be the
best based upon the circumstances of the
day and what he did  and did not know at
that time.

Hidsight is more than 20/20- it is the refuge
of the arrogant and the cowardly. It is
oh-so-easy for Obama and his cronies to sit
in leisurely judgement of what  President
Bush did post 9-11. Whether history praises
or condemns his actions, the belief that he
acted in good faith just as Truman had, to
protect freedom here and abroad should be

As Memorial Day approaches we will all be
taking time to consider those who have
served and sacrificed their lives for the rest
of us. Never before in the history of our
country has it been more essential for us to
be vigilant in protecting from disparagement
the United States Military, living and dead,
active and retired.

For all the demonstrations and antics of the
Viet Nam era "peace movement", the
government, itself, was not adversarial to
the troops. Today, we are perched on a
dangerous precipice. We now have an
administration very ready to pounce on any
negative event. They are also very ready to
condemn those who capture today's new
enemy, the terroist. Today, our troops are
hamstrung by multiple regulations controlling
how they can behave, such as being unable
to fire at an enemy before they are fired
upon, even if that enemy is taking aim.
Soon, our military personnel will be forced to
behave like ACLU attorneys on the
battlefield, giving "Miranda" rights to enemy
combatants and being mindful of things like
the chain of evidence.

I fear that soon,also, that leftists in this
Administration will be seeking criminal
prosecution against our troops for injuring
and killing enemies within the scope of doing
their jobs. It is essential that we stop the
trend now and do not allow the criminalizing
of those who protect our nation- from
George W. Bush to the intelligence agent in

Today's Basket
Recently a man in Bakersfield,
California attacked his four year old
son, brutally biting his eyes out. The
man, wheelchair bound, rolled himself
outside and began hacking at his own
legs with an ax.  Both the father and
the mother of the child have extensive
criminal records an multiple arrests for
drug use, particularly PCP, which is
connected with rage and violent
behavior. Child Services reported that
there had been calls about the couple's
children but it is not their policy to
remove children just because the
parents are using drugs...

This Day in History:
On this day in 1999 Slobodan Milosevic,
Former President of Yugoslavia was indicted
on 66 individual counts of war crimes and
crimes against humanity by the United
Nations War Crimes Tribunal.

Commentary: Milosevic died during his trial
after 5 years of proceedings and a final
verdict was never delivered. However, the
charges against him and the mountain of
evidence and parade of witnesses were as
astounding as the compilation of the
charges, themselves. Milosevic was charged
 for actions only during a few months of his
years as President to make the assembling
of evidence more practical. It was alleged
that during those few months, alone, he was
responsible for thousands of murders,
ethnic cleansing, genocides, wounding and
savage tortures, rapes, having women
thrown to their deaths down wells, burning
children alive, forcing the wounded to lie
among corpses, forcibly removing tens of
thousands from their homes, stealing their
land and property, imprisoning countless of
thousands without food or water and much,
much more. Former American President
George W. Bush had international terrorists
incarcerated at a facility in Cuba for which
he had the best in medical care and cooking
provided. He also authorized the use of the
enhanced interrogation technique of
waterboarding for three prisoners
specifically selected for the high level
information they held. As part of this
procedure Doctors were standing by and of
course the prisoners were aware that no
one had ever died from the procedure.
Compare the two Presidents side by side. It
is amazing that so many Democrats and
people in the Obama Administration,
including the Attorney General, have
expressed a desire to charge President
Bush with war crimes for his actions to
protect  our security in exactly the same way
another President was charged for his
responsibility for countless acts of murder,
genocide and savage torture.

There has not just been a loss of fairness  
and honor, there has been a complete loss
of perspective.

When I do seek national news on  television,
I generally turn to the Fox News Network-
well, I used to,

In recent weeks I've found myself turning off
Shepard Smith's show and then not getting
around to turning it back on. Smith can be
annoying on occasion but tolerably so.
However, lately his incessant and
sanctimonious pronouncements that
"waterboarding is torture and this country
does not torture" and the like have become
irksome.

Today, Conservatives, contact FOX and tell
them to muzzle their Shepard. Having an
opinion is one thing but wrapping it up like
undisputed fact and foisting it upon EVERY
guest and inserting it into every related story
is another. Perhaps it would do Smith some
good to review Milosevic's war crimes
record. Perhaps he would see that
waterboarding used in the way the Bush
Administration did is NOT torture as it did
not cause serious or permanent pain,
especially since the three people on whom it
was used were hardened, knowledgeable
and experienced terrorists who knew what
the procedure was- knew that medical
personnel was standing by and knew that no
prisoner had  ever died during this
procedure at American hands.

I hope FOX can temper Smith's very
sanctimonious attitude- for the sake of the

A San Diego Pastor and his wife report that
they received a visit from
a County employee on Good Friday during
their usual weekly bible study gathering in
their home. It was deemed that the
gathering were "religious assemblies" and
in order to hold them the couple would
have to seek a permit that could involve
many impact studies, environmental,
parking, etc and could cost thousands of
dollars.

On this day in 1892 John Muir founded the
Sierra Club.

Commentary: Muir was a visionary
conservationist. He saw the need to
preserve wilderness and was instrumental in
developing America's national parks system.
He founded the Sierra Club as a
volunteer-based grassroots organization to
conserve natural resources. He would
probably be shocked to see how his
organization has been taken over by
extremists who's goal is no longer to bind
man and nature but to diminish the
importance of man. Would Muir cheer to see
California farmworkers  reduced to begging
for food as their crops die because water
storage has been shut down to protect a
smelt fish? Or would he find a practical
solution that would not destroy human lives?
Would Muir support the politicization of
environmentalism through the excessive and
extreme "Cap and Trade" legislation? Or

Conservatives on the Front Line:

I have not been shy about expressing
concern and criticism about the Republican
Party. Anything I say is expressed with the
hope that it will be heeded and will foster
change. It is only part of the project to
criticize. It is also important to praise GOP
leaders when they do something right.

Yesterday. Iowa's Sen. Chuck Grassley,
senior member of the Senate Judiciary
Committee, did something great. He
reminded Democrats of the way the Senate
savaged Robert Bork, Reagan nominee to
the High Court, during the confirmation
process and did not confirm him, acting
without legitimate grounds.

Equating Bork to Sotomayor was tough and
brilliant. Conservatives, recognize Grassley
for his leadership and tough attitude
whenever and wherever you can.
Encourage him to continue his tough fight
against the approval of this activists judge.

Today's Basket
Los Angeles Fairfax High School
has chosen its Prom Queen.. and it
is a real "queen". It is an openly
gay 18 year old male. He says he
won't wear a gown but is pictured
with his tiara. Boys like this have
been around for a while, for
whatever reason, tirelessly foisting
their persona on others. The
noteworthy lesson here is about
the students who elected him.

Tidbits:
On this day in 1736 American Revolutionary
Patrick Henry was born in the Colony of
Virginia.

Commentary: Henry was a brilliant  attorney
and talented orator who captivated others
with his eloquence, most particularly on the
topics of natural rights and freedom. Henry
played a pivotal role in the birth of the
nation. He was instrumental in facilitating
communication and cooperation among the
then disparate colonies. Patrick Henry
represented Virginia, the state for which he
would later serve as Governor, as a
representative to the Continental Congress.
It was in that role that Henry delivered in
1775 this oration for which he is most
remembered:

Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace —
but there is no peace. The war is actually
begun! The next gale that sweeps from the
north will bring to our ears the clash of
resounding arms! Our brethren are
already in the field! Why stand we here idle?
What is it that gentlemen wish? What would
they have? Is life so dear, or peace so
sweet, as to be purchased at the price of
chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God!
I know not what course others may take but
as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

Although we are not in danger of losing our
physical lives, we certainly are in danger of
losing our liberties and our very way of life.
Henry's words can bolster and embolden us
today. It might be wise for President Obama
to review them, also, as he prepares his
responses to our enemies such as Iran and
North Korea. Mr. President is your diplomacy
of peaceful acquiescence  so sweet that it is
worth the ideological and economic
subjugation of our country?

Battlefield Communiques for
Conservatives on the Front Line:

There are times when the incessant and
cacophonous voice of the people can
accomplish something great. Sometimes it in
arena far-reaching such as the passage of a
law. Sometimes it is about one person.  
Today we must raise our voices for one
person.

He is  First Lt. Michael Behenna, an Army
Ranger. While stationed in Iraq he was
alleged to have murdered a known Al Qaeda
terrorist named Ali Mansur. It was believed
that Mansur was involved in an attack that
killed two American soldiers in Behanna's
platoon. It was decided that Mansur should
be released to return to his cell. There were
some irregularities in Behanna's behavior.
Without permission, he decided to try one
last interrogation to gain information on the
terror cell before the detainee was released.

It was at this time that Behenna claims
Mansur attacked him and he was forced to
fire in self-defense. Although a highly
credentialed forensics expert has declared
that the evidence supports Behanna's
version of events, his testimony and
evidence was not shared with the defense in
time to impact the verdict, nor was Behenna
permitted to testify on his own behalf.

He was convicted and sentence to 25 years.
Objectively speaking, LT. Behenna may
have to answer for disobeying orders and
the like, but it does not appear that he
received a fair trial. What it looks like our
national obsession to vilify ourselves, to
blame ourselves, to agree with any other
nation in any negative statement about our
country has claimed another victim. In lieu of
an eyewitness and with the support of
forensic evidence, the testimony of an
American serviceman with a good record
should be believed. Instead of protecting
someone who has served us with courage
and dedication, he's been thrown under the
bus. I believe Behenna is a martyr to our
efforts to gain the approval of the world.

The cost is too high. Behenna is one man-
but then again, he is not. He is every man
and woman serving us in harm's way and
wondering if they will be protected or
abandoned by their country. Raise your
voices as loudly as you can, Conservatives.

America's Secretary of Transportation
is considering the institution of tolls,
permit fees and taxation such as
taxing drivers according to how much
driving they do as individually
tracked by a satellite. In his own
words, LaHood has said that these
area "way to coerce Americans out of
their cars." There does not seem to
be much concern about Americans
who live in rural areas where public
transportation is unavailable.
